Skin by The Boxman (boxmanmods.blogspot.com)This is the first of only two Broadspeeds GTS ever built (the other being the Australian one that I already painted). Built by Ralph Broad (founder of Broadspeed, the tuning company) in Birmingham, it was intended to be just the prototype for a larger production, but it got virtually no interest. Although Broad knew he had achieved something great, believed in his creation, the car delivered the promised speed, and critics called it "the ultimate Mini conversion", the fact that it was almost as expensive as an E-type (and still being a Mini at the end of the day) meant that no order was registered. The car was even given away in a newspaper contest, but the winner prefered the cash. It was raced for a while in England by John Fitzpatrick and Tony Bloor, but soon it was sold to Tonio Hildebrand of the Nederlands. This skin is from the May 1967 Zandvoort race, where it came 1st in FL1.3, one of its first races right after being sold. Hildebrand raced it extensivelly in the ensuing years in Zandvoort and other places, coming 1st several times and modifing the the car along the way. Some more information about this car can be found here: http://maximummini.blogspot.pt/2013/05/today-46-years-ago.htmlI painted this car resorting to only a handfull of B&W photos, but I was told by people that know more about it than anyone that these are it's correct colors.Again as the Australian GTS, when I tried to build the broadspeed_tex.gtl with files numbered correctly, I don't understand why, it always crashed, so I had to grab one of the original skins and just replace the different textures. Not ideal, but I think it will work.V1.1: Made it look a bit more like the real one: removed two center headlamps, added black tape to original headlamps, replaced gauges with original ones and some other small texture modifications.
