In 1969 Allan Hamilton actually earned more points in the Australian Touring Car Championship (ATCC) than anyone else yet finished second in the championship. It was the first time the ATCC had been run as a series, rather than a single race. They divided the field into under and over 2 litre cars and Hamilton was the most successful under 2 litre car, but you also got points for outright, where the V8's tended to split the points
